Hempstead Housing Authority (HHA) is accepting applications for affordable studio and one-bedroom apartments for elderly (62+) and disabled adults (receiving
SSD or SSI) in our two developments:
General McArthur Senior Village, 260 Clinton
Street, Hempstead, NY 11550
Totten Towers, 20 Totten Street, Hempstead, NY 11550
To be qualified for admission, an
applicant must:
- Have an
annual income no more than $65,070 for one person or $74,350 for two persons (as
of 2020).
- Be an
adult household with a family member who is elderly (62 years old or older) or a disabled adult 18 years or older
(determined by Social Security Administration).
- A
disabled adult has impairment(s) other than a sole impairment of alcoholism or
drug addiction.
- Not have
any household members or guests engaged in any criminal activity that threatens
the life, health, safety or right to peaceful enjoyment of the premises by
other residents, or any drug related criminal activity.
- No
household members subject to a lifetime sex offender registration in any state.
- Pay any
money owed to HHA or any other housing authority.
- Prior
housing, credit and criminal background will be checked.
Selection
will be conducted by a lottery.
An applicant’s position on the waiting list will be determined through
a computerized lottery which is a
random selection process. It does not matter what day or time you
apply
during
the application period. Priority
will be given to applicants who live or work in the Village of
Hempstead and veterans.
Only 200
applications will be selected for the waiting list. Applicants who are selected on the waiting
list will be notified by United States
Postal Service (regular mail). Applications of
participants that are not selected by lottery will be destroyed.
Do not call the housing authority on
the status of an application.
Applications will be available
to the public online (24 hours per day) beginning on Tuesday, February 23, 2021
at 10:00 am through Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 5:00 pm at:

Applicants are encouraged to apply online on their
computer, smart phone, or tablet.

applicants needing assistance as follows:
VHHA will accept only one
waiting list application per household.
